Keanu Reeves anime finally reveals more details

During the San Diego International Comic Convention, more information was revealed about the upcoming anime adaptation of the comic book written by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt, "BRZRKR". The statement listed that Mattson Tomlin (The Batman, Terminator ZERO) will be serving as the showrunner, and that production will begin in Fall-2024 (October-December), with two seasons planned so far for Production I.G. studios.

It should be remembered that Netflix announced the acquisition of the rights to this work and the production of a live-action feature film adaptation and anime series since March 2021. Reeves will produce and star in the film, while he will also be a voice actor in the anime. Stephen Christy, president of Boom! Studios, commented on the matter:

  • «We all have a very special place in our hearts for Animatrix," he says. "That's why, when we were lucky enough to be given the opportunity to collaborate with Netflix on the film, we didn't just want to present a film. We would like to make an adult anime. To have Mattson [Tomlin], who is doing Terminator as he mentioned... I think we're looking forward to getting a chance to go to some of the worlds that you see in the comics, the specials... and we hope it pays homage to the anime we love as fans."

Reeves co-writes the comic with Matt Kindt, and it is produced in collaboration with Ross Richie and Stephen Christy at BOOM! Studios, while Company FilmsStephen Gamel is also credited with Adam Yoelin, also of BOOM!. The first volume of a total of twelve was released by the aforementioned publisher in March 2021. On the other hand, the animated adaptation will seek to expand the universe of the original work through the exploration of elements presented in the comic.

But after roaming the world for centuries, the Berzerker may have finally found a refuge: working for the United States government to fight the battles too violent and dangerous for anyone else. In return, B. will get the only thing he wants: the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence... and how to end it. Keanu Reeves makes his comic book writing debut alongside New York Times co-writer Matt Kindt (Folklords, Grass Kings) and legendary artist Ron Garney (Wolverine) in a brutally violent new series about an immortal warrior's fight through the ages.
