The renowned Japanese band YORUSHIKA, composed of N-buna in the musical production and Suis in the vocals, has released on May 9 their new digital single entitled “Martian” (known as Kaseijin in Japan), which serves as the opening theme of the second season of the anime SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary.
The song was not only published on digital platforms, but was also accompanied by an animated video clip already available on the band’s official YouTube channel. This emotional video shows a Martian performing the song in multiple languages, reinforcing its message about the desire to escape the current place to another world, such as Mars.

A personal and symbolic production
The description of the video clip reveals a deep reflection: “I also used to think I was a Martian. I thought I was in a special place, with something unique. But not anymore. It turns out that the others were on Mars, and I was only on Earth.”
This emotional connection is reinforced by the fact that n-buna not only wrote the lyrics, composed and arranged the song, but also participated for the first time in the creation of the video clip, serving as a scriptwriter, co-director and animator.
In addition, the video clip was co-directed by Kota Morie (MORIE Inc.), recognized for his previous works with the band, such as the songs “Spring Thief” and “Sunny”, the latter known for being the second opening of the anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
SHOSHIMIN continues its story in anime
The series SHOSHIMIN: How to Become Ordinary is based on the novels by author Honobu Yonezawa (famous for Hyouka) and is produced by the Lapin Track studio under the direction of Mamoru Kanbe (Elfen Lied). The composition is by Yoshiya Ono, with character designs by Atsushi Saito and music by Takahiro Obata (The Promised Neverland).
The Crunchyroll platform streams the anime simultaneously and describes it like this:
Kobato decides to become an honest citizen after a hard experience known as “wisdom work”. He makes a pact with Osanai, a classmate with the same goal, and his plan is to start high school so that they can have a quiet life. However, strange events and disasters begin to occur around him. Will Kobato and Osanai manage to maintain the peaceful life they long for?
With an opening like “Martian”, full of melancholy and sensitivity, the second season of SHOSHIMIN promises to continue touching the emotional fibers of the audience.
