My Dress-Up Darling Announces Opening Theme

The band Spira Spica returns with a new song that will mark the beginning of the sequel to the hit anime.

This Saturday, May 4, it was revealed that the band Spira Spica will return to perform the opening theme of the second season of the anime My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru), based on the manga by Shinichi Fukuda. The song will be titled “Ao to Kirameki”, and was presented along with a new promotional video that is also confirmed by part of the production team.

Exclusive preview in Japanese theaters

Japanese fans will be able to enjoy an early release at the Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas on June 29, before its official broadcast on television. The new season will arrive in July on channels such as Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV and Hokkaido Broadcasting.

The creative team returns with new additions

Keisuke Shinohara returns as director at CloverWorks, joined by Yoriko Tomita as head writer and Kazumasa Ishida as character designer and chief animation director. Also returning are Jun Yamazaki as co-director of animation and Takeshi Nakatsuka in charge of the soundtrack. Yūsuke Yamamoto joins as assistant director and Yohei Yaegashi as new co-director of animation.

A phenomenon that continues to grow

The anime debuted in January 2022 with a 12-episode first season, broadcast by Funimation and Crunchyroll with English dubbing. The story was also adapted into a live-action series released in October 2023 in Japan.

The play follows the story of Wakana Gojō, a lonely high school student with a passion for traditional dolls, and Marin Kitagawa, an outgoing girl who is fond of cosplay. Their meeting unleashes an endearing collaboration where art and the passion to be oneself flourish. The manga, which was published in Young Gangan magazine since January 2018, recently concluded on March 21.

With a mix of tenderness, comedy and romance, My Dress-Up Darling has established itself as one of the most beloved titles of recent years, and its new season promises to continue to excite its followers.
