Akio Hiiragi’s adaptation puts an end to more than a decade of hellish comedy in Tokyo with its latest volume this June.
Kadokawa has confirmed that the manga The Devil Is a Part-Timer! (Hataraku Maou-sama!) will come to an end with the publication of its 24th volume, scheduled for Wednesday, June 26. This adaptation by Akio Hiiragi puts an end to more than a decade of demonic chaos in the heart of Tokyo.
A demon in the modern era

The story, based on the light novels of Satoshi Wagahara, introduces us to the fearsome Demon King Satan, who after being defeated by the heroine Emilia, escapes to a parallel world. However, he ends up trapped in modern-day Tokyo without powers and forced to work at a fast food chain to survive. Thus begins a hilarious struggle for promotion… but within the human corporate system!
A trajectory that marked an entire generation
The manga debuted in Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in December 2011 and reached its plot climax in 2020. Volume 23 was released on October 25, and Yen Press has been in charge of distributing both the novel and the manga in English, with volume 22 published in December 2023.
The universe of Hataraku Maou-sama! continues to expand
Wagahara ended the main series of novels in August 2020 with its 21st volume. To celebrate the continuation of the anime, the author released in 2023 a new work titled Hataraku Maou-sama! ES!, which takes up the characters in new situations.
In addition, the franchise has had other projects such as the spin-off manga Hataraku Maou-sama! High School! illustrated by Kurone Mishima, published between 2012 and 2015 with a total of five volumes also available through Yen Press.
An anime that crossed borders
The original novel inspired a first anime adaptation in 2013, broadcast by Funimation and later released on Blu-ray and DVD. The second animated series, The Devil Is a Part-Timer!! (with two exclamation points), premiered in July 2022, and its second season in 2023 marked the third television installment in the franchise. Crunchyroll handled its international streaming.
With this latest volume, a fundamental stage closes for fans of supernatural humor and unexpected reversions of the typical hero vs. villain.
